Well, it seems to be that I need a "family car" even though I love my Stealth to death. Don't worry I plan to get a 2nd gen VR-4 after I sell one of the Stealth's to make room for a new car!

I have researched the A4's some and see that there are different ones. I am interested in the turbo ones...I'm sure you all know all the types and what's good/bad about them..as I know all the 3/S stuff. Please share your ideas on the turbo cars which is better and why, ect... Also what is this triptonic (sp?) tranny all about good/bad?? How do they hold up..the theory behind it sounds good but I can imagine there may be some problems with it???

Also, how do the turbos sound?????? Love them!

 

it really depends on what you're looking to spend.

Personally, my dream car would be an '02 6spd man. S4. but that's just me.

 

I think the 6 cylinder is a little more reliable but the 1.8t is more fun. You can really trick it up & they are reliable too. What you looking at spending?

 

I would like to keep it between 10-20k...of course I would like to be on the lower end of the spectrum and keep some of my cash so I (my husband) can do some upgrades....wheels, tint, coilovers, ect.. I don't need all the coushy crap, like the heated seats, navigation, ect...just BOOST! I love it and am sad to say addicted to the turbos! I would rather spend 3k on a turbo upgrade then a new living room set..LOL! What I really question is how fast is a 1.8L???probally not so even if it's turbo charged??? What is the hp on one of these?? Also is this a single turbo and the other twin turbo??

the 1.8L is a single turbo, pre-'01 you're lookin at 150hp stock, in '01 they upped it to 170hp. The S4 are a twin turbo setup and you'd be lookin at around 220-250hp stock i believe. One thing to remember though, is that 150hp goes a long way on these cars because they are fairly light. If you're lookin to do upgrades i would suggest a 98-00 under 60k 1.8t. It will give you good reliability with the most performance mod options w/o breaking the bank.

 

Thanks for the input ...but I'm still worried about the 1.8L not being fast enough. My SOHC base Stealth puts out 200hp w/200 ft lb's torque! Now the stealth is a beast a weigh's a ton! My husband's Stealth has the DOHC and even though it only has about 30-40more hp than mine it's much faster.

Is it fast on the take off or does it take a while for the turbos to spool up?? I so badly want a VR-4 now but with the boys I can't have one to drive everyday and need to get a 4dr before I get the VR-4..it can be our project car while this new one will be the daily driver for me.

Anyone, been in a Stealth or 3000GT??? How would you compair them to one of these turbos???

The quattro's aint that bloody light. 150 ponies on a 1.8 quattro, wont be getting you anywhere in a hurry. Different for the front wheel drive though. If you are used to something fast then you will definitely require a chip/turbo upgrade which you will easily do for 3k.

 

I looked at the S4's they are way to expensive....on auto trader the used one are between 30 and 40k wow!

What about the 1.8T vs 2.8L V6 ??? Which do you think is faster?? Or do you guys have a kit that u can add another turbo to the 1.8L???? Or even better a single turbo kit for the 2.8L v6 now that would be HOT! Is there one??

Ahhh 3k for a chip...you know I pick'em well! LOL sounds like the Stealth's that crap is expensive to. It's a shame that you can upgrade the honda's and stang's for 1/4 the price you can these...go figure!

I just don't want something slow and since we don't have any at the local dealerships for me to test drive I'm lost. I will probally buy one from a larger city dealer or possibly from ebay so I would like to know what these are like beforehand.

No turbo kits for the 2.8, but there is a supercharger kit

edit: The 3k isn't just a chip, you could get a bigger turbo kit and full exhaust for 3k.
