Noobie need helpie
Hi everyone-
I've learned tons reading many threads in this forum. Sounds like there are some great minds here and hopefully I'll be able to throw in my 2cents to topics once I'm more experienced with audis.
I am a proud new owner of a 2003 a4 1.8t avant with a sport package. Well, I was until a woman in a pickup smashed my front end after I had it for only a week. Anyway, I got it back from a month in the shop, just in time for 4 weeks of snow out here in CO! I'm loving it! These cars are amazing in the snow, much better than all the SUV's that I see stranded in the medians, evidently. That might just be the drivers though
Anyway, I searched the forum for the possible answers to my problem, but didn't really find what I was looking for. It is -2 degrees here in Denver, and my windshield washers stopped while I was spraying them today. They sprayed a bit then just stopped, never to spray again. I assumed the lines were frozen, but after reading some posts, it seems that maybe a fuse is busted or a pump went bad. I'm not getting any service signs on the dash. My ideas so far are: rule out the fuse and or the pump.
So, is there anything else that the fuse protects that will give it away as the problem? ie should I look for something else that won't be working that will tell me the fuse is spent?
I'll rule out the pump tomorrow, when I can have someone listen for the pump, when I pull the lever.
Any insight is much appreciated,
Ganuza

I assume that you checked to make sure there is fluid inside...
Do the headlight washers come on but not the windshield washers? They could likely be on the same fuse. From my experience, the pumps on B5 A4s seem to go pretty fast, but i'm not sure if B6s use the same part though. Good luck!

lol, that would be a newbie mistake if I hadn't checked the fluid level.
I wish it were that simple, but the tank is almost full and the contents is fluid, not a block of ice.
BTW, none of the washers (windshield, headlight, rear windshield) work, if that tells you anything.
Maybe I'll carry a squirt gun filled with washer fluid and fire it out my window

I wish I could be of more help, but I only have a Bentley for the B5. Others have mentioned replacing fuses 3 and/or 37, so I would check those. If it is the pump, it should be a pretty cheap part from the dealer.
Problem fixed!
The fuse blew because the headlight washers were frozen in the bumper and couldn't pop up. I poured warm water to free them, replaced the fuse with a 30amp as recommended by other threads, and voila.
Changing out a pump in -5 degree weather would have sucked!
Thanks all!
