Default noobish question about recent mods

So... I have 98.5 1.8t. A few months back I had the APR chip installed. On july 4th I was able to put in a HFC + Borla cat back exhaust and a FMIC. I am wondering if my chip needs to be "re -tuned" or something like that?

It does seem like I lost a bit of boost. I haven't tried driving in the TIP mode yet, but when I punch it...I am only getting around 13 psi and holding there. When I smoothly lay into the throttle, I climb to 16/17 and hold at 16. Before "my best 4th of july ever", I was spiking around 18....sometimes 20and holding around 15 psi.

On the plus side...the car is definitly faster despite the boost drop. Even when I punch it and it only gets to 12/13 psi, it feels like it is pulling stronger than when it used to at 16+ psi.

Any ideas???

sounds like your loosing some boost due to your FMIC - did you do the Ebay DIY FMIC or did you buy a "good" one?

not the ebay fmic. I got in on a group buy over at audizine for a racetec fmic. In speaking with Eric @ supremepowerparts.com he said that psi loss is minimal with this core and piping. Here is a link to the IC -

They piping in the pic is different than what I got....maybe that piping is for a b5 with a map sensor? or for a b6. The core is the one I got though.

775.00. I think there was 24 people involved and at 30, it was going to drop more. But, the number didn't get reached.........obviously.

Any idea about the chip needing to be "re tuned" or something???? , or did you just want toknow the price?

You can call APR and ask them if they have a tune that changes something when an FMIC is installed (just mention your other mods too). I've just read that an FMIC is not needed with a K03 turbo and can actually hurt performance.

I agree call APR they offer great customer service... but off the top of my head I dont think they offer tuning for mods like yours. but once you go K04 they will be happy to hook you up...

here's the number to call...

1-800-680-7921

just tell them exactly what you've gotten done and they will advise...

yeah, I read that too, but I also read of a bunch of guys with the K03 and it not hurting performance at all. Plus it gets really hot here in the bay area....the day of the install was 108.00, so it does help with heatsoak. Also, I read that performance is hurt when the piping is to big, but the piping on that kit is 2 inches.....which is supposedly good for the K03.
