Nosiy Front Driver Suspension Brushing/Joints (98 A4 B5)
All:
One of the many rubber bushings or joints within the front driver-side wheel well is driving me crazy with a "torquing" noise. At first I thought it was a bad engine mount because it was worst when I came to a stop and the front settled. I was also seeing a lot of movement. I briefly checked the suspension, but it appears to only happen on side-to-side pivots, not up and down.
Anyway, in terms of troubleshooting, with someone else cradling, I can put my hand on on the "Front Lower Control Arm" (#6, Page 10-4 in the Haynes), and "feel" the vibration associated with the noise. I can't pinpoint it any closer, but it may something else:
1) Stabilizer Bar Clamp
2) Stabilizer Bar Link (2 brushing,)
3) Steering knuckle
4) Upper Control Arm
5) Rear Lower Control Arm (2x)
It could be the joint on either side. It probably just needs a very serious lubrication. I've applied enough silicone to the exterior of the bushings to kill a small horse. I have half my mind to ask a pro to replace ever rubber component. But this may be strictly metal-on-metal.

Anyway, question is: Get this up on a jack/mount and break it down myself? Take it to a pro? I'll probably need a front alignment by a pro any way if I do it myself.
Thoughts?
