Default Odd Ecu Quetion

Hey guys

When I baught my b5, the seller said it had a "chip." he said it upped the rev limiter, and took off the govener. What he didnt say is that it up's hp, which is the main trait of a chip.

so, i pulled out my ecu and popped it open and took some pics... so my question: Does any of the lead chip programmers have a logo on thier chips when its added to the ecu, if not then can anybody tell me if im chipped.

i'm a 98 so im pretty sure that you cant just reflash to get more hp, but maby you can reflash and move the limiters. so here are some pics of my ecu, make what you want of it.

side one
side two

is there anyway to tell if im chipped just by looking at my ecu?

bump... damn guys, sombody HAS to know

update, i saw a pic with the giac installed and theres a fatty logo right in the middle, so i guess i can take that off my sig.

but does anybody know if apr's chip looks different? i wonder if sending my ecu to apr to get chipped will just override the stuff i have on there. that way i kno what's running my engine....

Well, like you said, it's probably not GIAC if they put a logo on their chip.

The '98 ECU isn't flashloader compatible, so they have to unsolder and solder a new ROM chip onto the board. I believe the chip is this one:

No, the 98s are NOT flash loadable (only 99.5+)... therefore if it doesn't look like there was a chip soldered on then maybe its not chipped.

good luck mate but it looks pretty standard to me " although I cant zoom in on the chip set " also cant see any dates stamped on there to see if the ECU has been replaced
