Hi, i have a qustion about what kind of an oil to use on my Audi 01 1.8t.
The oil was changed on the car about 2000 k ago and i still have more to go.. as i started the car today the oil light came on indicating to add oil i assume. i drove home and the presure indicatedslightly over 150 where is it normallysupposed to be? checked the oil stick and it showed sign of very little oil on the bottom so i have to add more oil i was wondering if anyone can tell mewhichkind i need to use because i was reading about synthetic oil, 0w40, 5w40.. if anyone can give me more info on this i would appreciate it . thanks

You're on the right track. 0w40 or 5w40 synthetic. Go with either Mobil1, Castrol, or Amsoil. All great products. Here's the full list:

I just realized, Amsoil isn't on Audi's list, but there's lots of people on this forum that use the stuff.

You could try a search,

I would say use mobile 1 0w40, that is my choice. (full synthetic)

The gauge on the dash doesn't measure oil pressure. It measures oil temperature.

Hey, i just purchased 1 of the Mobil 1 0W-40 and 1 of the Mobile 1 5W-30. I asked the guy at the register about which to use, he contacted someone who changes the oil and he said use the 5w-30 i dono which one to use now. He asked me how long ago i had my oil changed i said about 2300 miles or so he said that its better off to go get my oil changed again cuz its probably buring oil and its not good to add this new oil on top of it. WHAT should i do??

Thanks

Does the guy at the register own an audi??????

Change the oil, just to be safe. Get 5 quarts of mobile 1 0w40 full syn, and get a mann filter from an import shop or dealer.
You are turbo, so you want full syn, and 0w40 will give you good flow/protection.
the Mann filter is extra large. SometimesI use a Purolator PureOne??? filter, they are supposed to be the best filtering on the market, but its not as big as the Mann filters.

Change the oil, it takes right about 4quarts, maybe just a little more. Drive the car for a minute, park on a level surface, let it sit one minute, and check the level again, make sure its full, if not, add another 1/4 quart to bring it up to the full mark. Do not overfill.

hahah i dont think he does.
hey thanks for all the info i just added about half the bottle (14oz) of 0W-40 Mobil 1 oil and drove it aroudn seems fine. the previous owner had the oil change last done at Midas sticker says june and the milage says 63000 i purchased it with about 59800 and its got like 60400 right now so that is why i was thinking if it really needs the oil changed again maybe too soon? im assuming that Midas uses the every 5000mi oil change since its synthetic instead of 3000

and now that you have mentioned it i really dont think that Midas would use the right filter for it what u think? they probably have their regular filters put on . but im thinking within this month or so when i have time to get the oil changed all together with the Audi filter

It wont hurt to top it off until you can do a full change.

I do mine about every 4500-5k.

Is there any reason why 0w40 or 5w40 would be ANY better than just using 5w30? That's what I have.
