Default Oil change frequency

2002 A4 1.8T Quattro - APR Chip

The Service light has come on based on the time elapsed since my 30k service (almost one year). The issue is, my car is primarily garaged these days, and I'm only at 35k.

I'm assuming that I can follow the steps in the manual to reset the service notification, and that I can just wait until I get to approx. 40k for my service visit.

Since it's been almost a year since my last oil/filter change, would it make sense to change these on my own?

I was planning on it, but, was told that I can follow the service schedule. 10k miles between oil changes always worried me, but, I bought the car at 29k, and was told to follow the dealer schedule.

I have synthetic oil in it, does this last longer?

Yeah it claims it will last up longer. I really don't buy into the whole 10k miles deal. 5k max.

Thanks for reinforcing my feelings. I'm going to bring it in for a change ASAP. Especially with the fact that it's Chipped, it can't hurt to change the oil every 5k.

I'm a 3-4k man myself..and its getting about that time again. Not sure what I'm gonna use though, last time I went with dealer synth but I'm not letting those ***** touch my baby again. Dealer in Eau Claire is hurrendous.
