first you remove the drain plug then you watch the oil drain then remove the oil filter then replace the plug then put a new filter on and add oil </P>

yeah thats about it - just make sure you KNOW the drain plug is the oil drain plug and not the tranny fluid drain plug...<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0">

Drain plug is directly behind and under the bumper.<edited><editID>brrman</editID><editDate>37994.6829166667</editDate></edited>

let me know if you need torque specs for your drain plug. or capacities for your fluids.

a step by step process, for those who know nothing about cars and wanting to start somewhere with cars and save a bit of money, will be greatly appreciated. maybe even some pics would help too. i know this is a tedious process but again for those of us who know nothing but would like to start somewhere

Ok well maybe it will be easyer if I tell you where everything is first.</P>

the oil fill cap is on the top of the engine should be labled oil fill</P>

the drain plug is on the oil pan which is the bottom of the engine should be a big screw on the pasenger side of the oil pan( the aluminum thin bolted to the bottom of the engine block)</P>

this is probly the toughest one the oil filter, its under you intake manifold which is the aluminum thing with four tube like things goin to the engine you probly have to take the hosegoin the the intake manifoldto get to it</P>

First you wanna take out the drain plug obviously you wanna put something under there then replace the drain plug. then you wanna remove the oil filter remove the intake hose by unscrewing the hose clamp the tuck it back behind the headlight then unscrew the oil filter(oil will spill every where) then put the filter somewhere it can drain. take the new oil filter and put some clean oil on the rubber washer(on the oil filter) then put the the filter on stait and screw it on as tight as you can with your hand. then put about 4 1/2 - 5 quarts of oil in and you should be done. of course you wanna put that intake hose back on and you might need a oil filter wrench to take the filter off. note let the car run for 2 minutes then shut it off and check the oil level again. </P>

the best way to check the oil level is shut the car off take the dipstick out wipe it off then put it back in and then check it.</P>

Good luck</P>

yeah that oil filter is a bizzatch to change. Unless you have small arms like me your going to have to remove something to get at it. I can barely squeeze my arm up there to twist the wrench.

A hint - when you take the oil filter off, do so by putting a plastic bag around it and then unscrew it off. That way all the oil that will come out of it will not drip into your face. And change the oil when the car is COOL - or else yuo will get burned.

4 1/2 - 5 quarts is too much. The manual is incorrect. The 1.8t should take 3.75 - 4 quarts. Might want to add a little oil to the new filter before you install it too.

you sure your not overfilling it? Audi put out a technical bulletin that the manual quote was incorrect. 3.7 liters was the corrected amount given. Thats pretty much what mine takes.
