Default Oil Light

Hey all,

After getting the turbo issue figured out I was all sorts of happy and it works great the car runs great. The car was driven by the previous owner for 4-5 thousand miles after he got the car for his uncle.

He never had the light come on and I also didn't have the light come on before I fixed the turbo I went on a short trip accost Utah and never had one issue ( the car was slow without the waste gate working)

I got all of that working , changed the valve cover gaskets and drained the rest of the oil out of the pan and removed the filter. When I did this I noticed the Bosh one I had that was new was MUCH smaller than the one that was on it, I put mine on put 5QT of Mobile 1 10/30 full synthetic in and started it up. Took it for a test drive, noticed the oil was a bit to high.

Well yesterday on my way to a local theme park the Oil light came on for about 1-2 seconds when I got off the highway and came to a stop light, it startled me because everything else was in check, oil temp/coolant temp ect nothing else seemed to be wrong.

I went about 2 miles down the road over some train tracks and the light came on again for about 1 second. I made a deliver of something then we returned back on the highway to the theme park. It hasn't come on sense then...

I'm trying to figure out what could have gotten bumped when I took the turbo out, all that was wrong was the nut on the back of the wastegate arm fell off so the door on the turbo was stuck open. That was easily fixed there was no play in the turbo and no smoke coming out of the tail pipe now.

Trying to think if the oil filter is the cause for the issue or maybe the oil pump just happened to go out.

If the oil pump is the case do you just drop the pan and remove it/replace it with a new one?

To much oil cause the oil light to come on because of TO MUCH pressure... ( I know that is a dumb idea )

I understand about the sludge but the car was perfectly fine before. Would the turbo working now cause the issue to come up?

Could be bad oil pressure sensor, or more ominous low oil pressure due to a failing or blocked oil pump. Take it in and have someone check the oil pressure and make sure it is spec.

There are two size filters for our cars. Make sure you buy the bigger one.

What do you think the stealership would charge me to check the oil preasure?

I purchased a Vag-Com should be getting it at anytime. Do they have a gauge they hook it up to or go off what the sensor is saying?

Might just be a coincidence but... When I bougt my audi 9 months ago, I changed the oil with 10w30 and noticed the oil light come on for a couple seconds once. Shortly after that, and finding out that 5w40 is the recomended viscosity to use, I changed it to that and it never came back-at all. Mine had the larger oil filter on it though when I got it. Since then I use Amsoil 5w40 fully synthetic oil and have never seen the light. I guess what im tryin to say is, the viscosity might be the cause or a factor.

Wow what a small world.

Today I got looking in the manual for the car and it says to use 0w40 or 5w40.

I went to mobiloil.com and put in my car info and it also said to use 0w40 then it taught me about VW 502.00 I think is what it is and then I thought to myself, smaller filter and wrong oil that could be a cause for the issue.

I went down to Autozone and looked at every oil they sold and there was only 2 types which were VW502 and the one was Mobil1 0w40 and the other was 10w40.

Armed with the infomation the book said including what mobil website said and other users on here have said I opted ofr the Mobil 1 0w40 full syn.

I think that as said above the wrong oil could most likely cause it on top of it I some how put 1QT to much in it so it was above the "full" level by far.

Now all is in check the only way to see what happens is by driving it.

Also I changed out to a mobil 1 oil filter which is twice/three times the size of my bosh one and looks the same size as what the car had on it.

I also took the oil cap off while the car was sitting at idle and I saw oil spashing around the bottom of the hole ( didnt have flash light ) others said checking point to see if oil is seen spashing around.

You may have one of the "old" bosch filters. Audi suggests the bigger filter now to help prevent sludge.
