Hi everyone,

Went to start the car this afternoon and as it started 'OIL' showed up on the dash displayit stayed on for about a minute then went off. i checked the oil level and it wasnt low. What else could this be?Needs an oil change? oil pressure?

Car still runs fine.

Pressure - low or a bad switch. Check for sludge...

Wait you have a 96 A4, that just has the idiot lights in the cluster, was the light illuminated on the bottom right hand corner of the cluster? If it was it could be just the oil change light, my buddies does that too but hes too lazy to hook it up to the VAG COM to change it, the older models have to be changed with a scanner.

 

good call! if it's flashing oil on your trip mileage then you're ok

 

yeh the OIL appears under the trip meter, flashes on and off for about 1minute then goes off

 

If thats the case take it to the dealer and get the service reminder re-set, or if it doesn't bother you ignore it.

 

We're so used to associating oil and 1.8t sludge around here....

 

Man, I bet you live for these moments when you get to take a 1.8t jab,dont you?
Sad, but true though..... Actually its been a while. I think the giplantic oil filter and use of full synthetic oil is making a difference in the world..
