Default oil pan nut

todya i went to change my oil. Since i just got the car about a month ago this is my first time changing the oil of tis car or an audi at that. I think i am loosing the oil pan nut but not sure. All i know is that the ****!in thing will not come off. I tried to get it off by hand and it wont come off. I even have an air wrench(bad one) from like pep boys still wont come off.

What should i use?

what might be even more helpful someone send me a picture of where the oil pan is on a 98 a4 1.8 that would prob help me out so i can know if i am even in the right place haha thanks

DON'T use an impact gun on ALUMINUM!!!!!!!! If the bolt isn't coming out by hand its probably stripped, and if it is your gonna have to helicoil it or replace the entire oil pan.

The oil plug is #36 on the following diagram (for a 1998 A4 1.8T).

Here is a picture from my 2002 A4 1.8T. I can't say if the layout is different from the 1998 but I can't imagine it would be much different.

By not being able to take the plug off, do you mean it's rounded? If that's the problem, you could use a dremel with a cut-off wheel and slot it, then remove it with a flat screwdriver.

If it's rounded get a set of metrinch sockets - best money I ever spent... they will grab on the flat sides of the bolt.

Also, get a breaker bar or torque wrench at your local harbor freight - shouldn't run more than $20

My cousin was kind enough to drain my transmission for me. Whatever you do, do not drain the transmission which is an allen while the oil drain is a metric bolt.

From your description sounds like you fubared that oil pan bolt. You'll probably need a new oil pan.

I used the good old vice grips to get mine off. I guess I was lucky.
