Default oil pressure light

My oil pressure light keeps flashing once in a while on a 2000 1.8t and I am wondering if I replace my oil sending unit if this will solve the problem. I run straight synthetic with the larger oil filter. Any tips would be great. THANKS!

The first thing to do is check your fluid levels. You can get low pressure warning any time your fluids are low.

Check both your oil and you coolant level. I believe a common problem is misinterpreting oil warning for coolant warning.

Go check out both and then post back whether they were low.

all of the fluid levels are full, oil, coolant and power steering. It seems to happen most often when I apply the brakes.

Sounds like a plugged oil pickup. Failures for the switch are infrequent. Plugged pickups are common enough to have a tech bullitin. You may want to see if the dealer will pick up part of the tab. Especially if you have all your oil change reciets.

Sounds like possible sludge. Have oil pressure problems checked ASAP.

I just changed my oil pressure switch for a similar reason. (by the way, its a really easy job, don't have to take anything apart) Only probably not worth the time because i'm pretty sure it wasn't the switch. I'll have to see about this plugged pickup thing.
