Default Oil Smell and Remot Problems

I have recentlly bought a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro from a used car dealership, when I test drove it I didn't smell anything, but after a month or so, I started to smell burning oil. The only problem is that the oil is fine and I got it changed last week, does anyone know why I smell burning oil? And I changed the battery in my remote, but for some reason it won't sincrinize, so I can't use it at all now, I have called Audi and been through the steps in the maual, but it still won't work, can some one help?

Oil: you probably just spilled a little when filling, probably nothing to worry about

Key: The only way i know how you have to have two keys..... put first in igniton turn one click, put second in driver door and lock.... press unlock button on key in igniton and car should honk and its programed, then repead with second key now in ignition but this time press the unlock button twice when you do it

Well one time when I stopped to get something to eat, I noticed that my grill was smoking, and when I opened the hood a small ball of smoke puffed out from the left side of the engine, does that mean anything?

It's not turbo, it's the 2.8L.
