for the 500hp melting a piston, yes, i have not seen it on a healthy engine(seen plenty burn up running lean, but at all power levels). im just going off of what is recomended by previous BIG hp 1.8t makers. and the manufactures

How can you say the pistons are at fault when the tune is lean? Thats not a power problem, thats a heat problem. You might aswell just shoot the EGT'S skyrocketing and blame thepistons also.

did you read the context? and how the sentence is put together. i NEVER said that the LEAN issue had anything to do with the maxmelting point of the pistons. i SAID, in paranthesis, that i just had happend to see a lot melt under a lean enviorment. but at ALL power levels. but who hasen't. that portion of the conversation was just extra banter. study up on your reading comprehension

andtorque breaks driveline parts (axles/transmissions/shifterlinkage/etc..) Right, but thats not the dicussion.

that was to illustrate what torque does. it is a common misconception that torque is what breaks/bends rods. it has a part a small percentage of the time. but very small.. why do you think that when everyone, and anyone related to the automotive industry gives out a hp rating when defining the breaking point of an engine.. just as a quick example, do you ever hear, the stock 4g63 throws a rod at aroung 500wtq? no, it's always 500whp

high hp + high reving + heat = broken rod Again, TQ, low end in fact, BREAKS RODS!! Thats why people with a gt2871r .64 are FAR more at risk to snap a rod than those running a .86. Low tq and a smooth transition to TQ makes it easier on the rods, no matter the HP. Thats what makes a gt2871r .86 and a t3t4 50trim .63 such great turbos for stock rods. You can make 350whp+ and still be on stock rods. There is a person with a 2000 TT making just under 400whp on stock 20mm wrist pin rods on a gt2871r .86

god, i hope that is not fwp. cause if it is Awhp, then it's something to write home about..

just for a different reference, a guy on audizine with a fwdB5 ATWmade 333fwhp and 390wtq on a GTRS.. and on a MIKA TUNE non the less.. that's a lot of torqe for the stock motor. how is his motor still in one peice???? and this guy runs race gas a lot, and races bullet bikes on the free way regularly.. no one dyno pull then he's done.

hell, there was a 100% stock motor'd 1.8t GTI with a GT35r that made 500fwhp too.. lots of cars can make big power for a dyno pull or 3. but daily drivability is the point.

there is more stress on a rod with a motor spinning at 7000rpms making 200whp than there is on a rod when the motor is spinning at 4000rpms making 500wtq..

You are high, arent you? You are more likely to spin a rod bearing at 7k, but not break a rod

wow, i had higher expectations of your general car knowledge. that's just sad

i forget the math, but every x amount of rpms you rise, the stress on the rods increses 10 fold. i'll see if i can look it up Do what you like, your still wrong

you may think that, and that's ok. but i didn't find the info i was searching for tonight. but e-mailed a guy who should know where it is

^actually no, the AEB's internals are not forged. that was speculation for a long time.

No rods are forged, just pistons.
umm...there are definitely forged rods
not sure what's going on up there. don't know who's saying what, or what's being said to who. but i'd like to know

read a little closer. he is claiming that the pistons are forged. which is likely. i've never seen it confirmed. but it is likely..

but no, the rods are NOT forged. no matter what year. fact, not opinion. you can tell just by looking at them

yeah, seems to happen more often than not with us. no worries. when i have time for it, it's fun. i like proving him wrong. or sometimes coming to an understanding

but he posted a link of a full GT28RS. not an elim kit

ooh haha, i thought he meant no rods are forged (like in general, not with 1.8T's)

well, since we're already WAY off topic. i'll give in. besides, it's related to a gt28rs anyways.. here's something to look forward to Kyle

it's been a bi*ch this past week. to say the least.. fought a wastegate flange leak(3 blown gaskets). ended up machining down the flange. got that fixed, then the turbo>manifold gasket blew. took that out and while bolting the turbo back to the manifold, i managed to strip one nut so it wasn't evena nut anymore. and i snapped the other top stud in half.. had to remove those, an asetelyne torch played a roll. then i retapped the top holes. put new studs in. rebolted the turbo back up and put everything back together finally about 20 minutes ago... whew.. oh, and my rear tire decided to go flat while the car was parked for over 5 days. which my battery died in that time also.. yeah, fun stuff in the BT world..

but starting her up and taking her for a spin around the block made it all worth it

I almost believe what you say, like a gtrs making tq.....LOL. More people confirming what i say

I have yet to see anyone confirm what you say or even find anyone making TQ with a elim. Think the zine is full of bunk. Kind of like how APR starts breaking cranks at over 400whp and people have yet to break one (see link).
