OK I'm new here and have a huge question
tell the service manager, or the gm, that you're going to call audi usa directly and complain. there's a pretty good chance they'll change their minds. it's worth a shot. and if they don't, then CALL AUDI USA, they are much more helpful than many dealerships.
How can you drive 22K MILES without changing your oil? Even if audi chased me outta their lot with a shot gun.. I'd have gone home and changed it myself, or went to ANY other mechanic. I'd feel wrong going over 4K miles without an oil change.
Hope it works out for him... but he shouldn't have been suprised when it happened.

see the problem is he brought it in for the 10K like the ask. It oly had about 9K on it. He told them that the radio was busted as well. They fixed the radio and that's it. He didn't realize it. He thought they preformed the 10K check. next check 20K. At 22K it died. So again he thought it was changed at 10K and yes he was 2K over the next change but that's not too bad, I guess. I don't know I was shocked they only require oil changes at 10K intervals. I mean on normal oil you telling me people have not gone 6K instead of the 3K they should. I'm assuming audi is using synthetic hence the 10K well 20K is 2X the suggested and 6K is 2X the suggested. to me I think the oil pump went and that's what caused the mess but we will not know till we get the car back.
I still have not found anyone who build motors for these cars. Maybe I'm spoiled with mine but I know of builders all over the country. I kinda thought we would be able to find one somewhere.

because of the turbo, he probably has some massive sludge problems by now...maybe he should've glanced at the service receipt after the 10k service? a lot of people, especially those with 1.8Ts, do their own oil changes at least once between dealer services, to keep sludge out of there, and other obvious reasons...they only "need" to be changed every 10k because it's synthetic motor oil
I was under the impression that our cars should have their oil changed every 5K, but audi pays for every other oil change... so the 10K 20K 30K etc, but it's understood that you pay at 5 15 25 etc.
Who knows, just something I heard from somebody, and I never double checked it -- and am far to lazy to do so now. Does our manual actually say "change oil every 10K miles" or was he looking at what audi paid for, and assumed that was all that was needed.

He def should have looked at what they did and didn't do. I'm not for one second trying to defend his actions. I'm just giving the situation to you guys. I'm also trying to find a place that builds motors. I though some people here might know since I figure you guys are into your cars. At this point I'm just trying to help him to find a place to do the motor work versus the dealer.

As for what audi requires versus pays for I don't know since I don't own one. I wanted to buy his when he was done with the lease but now I'm not too sure of that. This would have been my ideal winter car. Hopefully if he gets this done right I still might be interested. My goal would be to have a shop build him a motor with a forged bottom end so tha twhen I get the car maybe I can upgrade the turbo. Of course I haven't looked into this much but I can only assume it's possible.

i have a vw 1.8t engine for sale, same thin you just got to switch manifolds and accesorries, crap like that, if your interested let me know ill give it to you cheap
sorry i can't help you with a shop recommendation, i'm on the west coast....i'm thinking it would probably be cheaper to get a used motor from a wrecking yard and swap it out, rather than rebuilding the original... www.car-part.com is a good resource for used parts.
