Default old tails to newwwwwww

hey guys. my buddy just got an old a4 w the nasty orange tails. he bought new tails off a 99 not the 99.5+ ones and we used this write up http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext38.shtmlbut it didnt work because the tails are slightly diff from the 99 to 99.5. does anyone know what to change or if theres a write up on it?

I have just bought new taillights online a few days ago.. I'm wanted the facelift. They haven't came yet but I'm not going to do it myself anyway, I'll bring it to the shop. Hope it works out because it should be a fairly easy upgrade I understand.

i think the only difference between the 99 and 99.5+ is the back up light is the second one down from the top on the 99. im not sure which wires to switch but it looks like you'll have to play around a bit. get a volt meter and turn on each light individually and splice them in the correct order the lights go. i could be talking out of my *** about the bulb order but the thinking part should be correct

i dont think you have to switch any wires if its not 99.5.

I think you only have to switch those two wires if your moving from 96-99 to 99.5-01

not 100% positive tho, but i am 95% positive lol.

have you tried it without switching the wires at all??

Theres no wire "switching" necessary with the pre 99.5 headlight, both kinds. Put the connector wires back the way they were and it'll work.
