Default Operation: Blue Smoke *URGENT*

So I ve been told that blue smoke is a sign that the car is burning oil. Is there anyway to fix this and how much would it cost? Also while we are on the topic of smoke, what does white and grey smoke signify? (This is all on a 96 A4 2.8QT with 120K miles.)

Thanks for the help,
Mike

White smoke is usually coolant burning. It will usually smell sweet to. Dude go get your car look at by a mechanic, or take it back to the place you bought it. You are goign to have bigger problems if you don't. As far as costs, there is no way to tell. There is no way to diagnose this problem over the internet for certain.

Called the Audi mechanic. They told me that that is not unusual in the colder weather we've been having (40-51 degrees F) and I just had a compression test done last week and everything was fine so its no use to worry I guess.

yeah, keep "guessing" that is's nothing serious, and dont be upset when you find out that it was.

i live in Philly and it gets alot colder here than in SoCal..... and my Audi has NEVER blown out blue smoke!

take your car to a mechanic, if your honestly concerned about it.
whatever it is, it'll cost less to fix now than it will when it gets worse.

There could be oil mixed with the gas. Run another tank of gas to see if it clears up.

Well yeah it's pretty obvious there is oil mixing. But just waiting to burn another tank of gas isn't goign to make the problem go away.

Yes, under NO circumstances is burning enough oil to be visable "Normal".
