Default peon to a4

Hey everyone i'm new to this forum and just got interested in modding cars. I have a chance to aquire a 98 audi a4 1.8T with about 110,000 miles from my mom. My car right now is a 2003 dodge neon sxt with about 32,000 miles on it. If this deal goes through i'll be paying about 3 or 4 grand for the car instead of her getting the blue book value of around 9 grand, but she'll be getting all the money from selling the neon. My question is if there are any major complications with her audi that may be coming up because of the milage. I was told that at 120,000 miles i'll need a new timing belt. Madukes says it'll cost around 1500 dollars but i've heard i can get the parts and do it myself for maybe 300 or 400. Is all of this worth it? Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

your mom is trying to scam you! you can easily sell your neon for 9k. if you give your mom 3k for her car, and she sells yours for 9k, then shes getting 12k from this....quite alot more then the blue book value.

you seem young, i would say stick with the sxt. it has very low milage and won't give you any problems for a WHILE. and that is what you probubly need right now. a replacement engine for a neon is 800 bucks. LOL.

Yeah, sounds like a shady deal to me. Def sell your Neon by yourself privately and get a much newer A4 with lower mileage.

I dunno...your mom is definitely trying to hustle you. Even if your car is worth 8,000 (KBB thinks so) your mom is gonna make 11k in cash, and you're losing 3 when you should be able to break even on a trade like that. It's your decision, but if you could get her to sign the title over to you, and then sell the Neon, you could buy a lower-mileage Audi, or use your 3 or 4 grand to mod one that you buy for the price of the Neon.

And yeah, you can do the TB yourself for 300 bucks.

Yea man your mom is trying to screw you, and you are caught up in the whole getting a fast car craze mood thing. Just relax stick with the car you have save some money and get a nicer one down the road.
