Picking up '03 1.8T Quattro on Tuesday
I have finally found what I've been looking for ... at least I hope.
2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro - Black on black
5 spd transmission
Sport Package
Prem Package (w/ full power drivers seat)
Cold Weather Package
Xenon
Bose
(windows have already been tinted too)
30k miles; 12 months left on New Car warranty and CPO w/ 6yrs/100k mile warranty
No claimed painted panels
Service records indicate it has had all scheduled maintenance and no repairs, only bulb and wiper replacements
Carfax is clean. Non-smoker car
I'm uber excited to be getting back into a German car. I just sold my SUV and miss my 330xi too much. This should keep me satisfied for a while. I'm looking foward to picking all of your brains when I decide to mod!

I think we're going to be right around $23k. I have been searching high and low and have found problems with all of the other cars that I originally thought were "just perfect" in the past. I have found issues like the car hasn't gone in for the routine FREE maintenance (not a good sign) or I find painted panels or I find its been smoked in or that it doesn't have the PPY Premium package which came out the second half of 2003 1.8 production ... the PPY package has the full power driver seat with manual while the PPX Premium package has a fully manual drivers seat w/o even a manual lumbar lever (at least on the car's I've seen). This car seems to be almost perfect and have the packages that I want. I like the color combo, transmission, packages, the service history checks out, no paint, 30k miles w/ CPO warranty through June of 2009. The car is out of state and I won't be able to get there until Tuesday.
I actually negotiated on three other 2003 1.8's and the prices on those ranged from $21,500 - 22,500, however the obviously weren't perfect either or I would have bought one. Like I mentioned above, one had a manual driver seat, one had paintwork, one didn't have the CWP as advertised ... so there were many nuances to these that I was able to negotiate lower on. They also had on average 5-8k more miles and came out in late 2002 as opposed to mid 2003.

I have been looking pretty hard for a while now for exactly what I want, which is difficult for a used car. I live in Northern Virginia and have been seeing most A4's starting at $24,995 - $25,995 for Certified Pre-Owned. Premium package w/ power seats were a must as were the Cold Weather Package and 17" wheels. I preferred the Sport Suspension because I probably wouldn't mod it since it comes 30% stiffer and 1" lowered from the factory. Bose and Xenon were not clinchers for me but they're nice to have. On the ones I negotiated on before I got one that started at $24,995 to come down to $22,225, down $2,770 bucks ... then I got a call days later that the rear fender had apparently been painted before and had probably been mucked up with Bondo <--- a car I no longer wanted. The next "perfect" car (I found out) had the clutch replaced at just 4,000 miles and it never went in for the 5k mile service < --- wouldn't want that either. I found another one that had what I was looking for but ended up finding out sort of late in the deal that it didn't actually have the Cold Weather Package as advertised. I have been looking VERY HARD to find exactly what I want with no paint, a non-smoker car AND with significant warranty coverage. This car has an original in-service date of June 2003 so I will have the Factory New Car Warranty through June of 2007 and CPO warranty coverage through June 2009. For what I have been told by Audi service reps and mechanics is to not buy an A4 w/o some sort of warranty. I felt $23 was fair for what I am getting ... a FULLY loaded, clean A4. Yeah its on the higher end of what I had been looking at but again, this one doesn't appear to have defects and is covered for a while under warranty.
ahh i think the certified pre-owned is the clincher....i think that may drive up the price a little bit....well congrats on the find...im still looking hard for the one i want...not in a huge hurry cause i still enjoy driving the car i have...itll be hard to let it go...
Certified Pre-Owned def. adds to the price, but I wanted the insurance policy. The car is coming with a set of brand new Pirelli's. There are certain specifications that certain parts need to meet in order to receive certification, including brakes and other like parts. $23k might be on the high end but I have been doing my market research through checking prices online, negotiating with dealers, Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, NADA ... yada yada yada and I feel that this is fair given the car is exactly what I want, that I am not having to make any concessions, that it has new tires, over 80% of the brake life left and so on
