Please reply~Timing belt
Okay, i bought this audi knowing of the timing belt needing to be changed, now the guy said that it would run me about $500 to do it myself.
But i find that hard to belive because i found belt kits for 179$
Am i missing anything for this price to be higher or was he just dumb?

make sure the kit includes everything you need: basic kits usually include t-belt, tensioner, and roller. the basic kit runs about what you said $180
if you are going to be doing the timing service you really want an "enhanced" or "ultimate" kit (names differ depending on where you buy it). Ideally the kit should include: t-belt, tensioner, roller, idler, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt...
some also include coolant, various seals and gaskets and accessory drive belts (depending on your specific engine code). figure about $300
finally, there are a few other miscellaneous things you can look at doing while you have the car "apart" like valve cover gasket and associated other seals and gaskets that are under there
good luck

usually it is not the belt itself that fails but one of the other components, water pump, tensioner, or one of the rollers. pretty much if any of those components go you have valve salad and will need that new motor sooner than expected.
you can reuse the coolant if you drain it into a clean container. most of the other stuff is relatively inexpensive and it only makes sense to spend a few extra bucks to change them. there are varying opinions on the seals and gasket. some people say change them all while you have access. the others say if it isn't leaking just leave it alone.
