Poor gas mileage?
I have a 2004 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro and I have been getting between 12-15 mpg doing all city driving. This seems low to me especially when the car is rated for 18 mpg in the city. Has anyone else experienced low mileage on their A4s? I have been calculating it based on miles traveled divided by gallons used rather than relying on the computer, which over-estimates the mpgs.
i have an 01 a4 and my city driving is 15mpg to 16mpg id be lucky to get 17. which sucks cuz then i can only go like 200 miles on a tank. i drove for an hour on the highway and got it up to 22 but once i started to city again it dropped down to 17.
Unfortunately stop and go traffic is awful for gas mileage. It also depends on how you drive the car in the city. Automatic or Manual? Are you in a cold climate? Vehicles in general don't get as great gas mileage the colder the weather. Is it time of new tires? Do you have a rack on your car? Do you have a system? There could be a number of factors that effect your gas mileage.
I average about 27MPG, but don't live in a large city and if i'm driving the car hard, its way down.

Could be your tires if they are getting worn or the fact that your car may need a service check. Weather could definatly also be a factor, note how the estimated miles per galon are as they say, estimated and driving conditions matter. How many thousands of miles are you at right now? If your driving your car often and coming to those key numbers to get a checkup, then you may see a difference when taking it in and having your ride cleaned.
How many miles?
Car will get lousier mileage in the winter. In addition, many stations use 10% ethanol in their gas which makes it even worse. For some reason, I get better mileage with Shell gas than other stations.
I'd suggest some good fuel injector cleaner (eg Techron or Redline) as a cheap possible fix.
If your car is approaching 100K miles, I'd suggest a new oxygen sensor.
