Default Programming new remote

So I read a lot of different FAQ's, forums, and websites that talk about different ways to program your remote. Most of them are almost exactly the same, just slight variations...

So I tried this.

1. I took my good remote/key (Key #1) and put it in the ignition.
2. Turn key #1 to the ON position (I did NOT start the car)
3. While sitting inside the car, I rolled the drivers window down
4. I took my new remote/key (Key #2) and put it the drivers door
5. I turned Key #2 to lock the door. I heard all doors inside my car lock
6. I pressed the UNLOCK button on Key #2.
... At this point I expected to see my lights flash, or a beep, or something.

No go.

My remotes dont look to be exactly the same, but the numbers seem to jive. What do you all think of this?

i think the winding the window down bit hasn't got anything to do with the programming, it's just so that you dont lock your keys in the car!

as for the remote, i believe it's the "FCC ID" which you need to match for it to work.

Try double, or triple tap the unlock button. Sometimes you gotta clear the program first for a new remote to work. Also after you unlock the door you have to turn off the ignition then turn it back on with key #1. The FCC ID doesn't matter, I have both models and they work fine.

Trey25,

So I just wanna say I am pretty frustrated with this so far. :P
I bought a key on eBay, he shipped me an A6 key.
I paid someone locally $20 more to take the A6 off me and give me the A4.
I MIGHT have the wrong key (although you say it isnt)
I paid someone $25 to cut the key
I STILL need to program the remote AND pay for the immobilizer.

So let me get this straight?

*ADDED*
6a? Possibly try doing a double or tripple tap on Key #2 (in the door)
7. Turn ignition off (with Key #1 still in the ignition), then back on (With Key #1)

... At this point I expected to see my lights flash, or a beep, or something.

Is timing important on any of this? Like do I have to do it within 5 seconds, or wait 5 seconds, etc?
I am just so damn frustrated! Sorry...

THANK YOU for your help, I really do appreciate it.

Hey I know the feeling, I got frustrated too when I first tried. Ok heres how I did it on my 98. Reason I said that being it might be different for your 04.

1.Turn on ignition with key #1
2.Get out of the car lol and lock your door with key #2 You won't hear the alarm beep just your doors lock.
3.Ok remember the program has space for 4 keys so since key #1 is arleady programmed you gotta press the unlock button on key #2 twice. The doors will remain locked but you'll see the indicators and side markers blink twice, NOT your headlights and NO beep.
4.Manually unlock the car.
5.Turn off the ignition then quickly back on.
6.Turn off your car, get out and test key #2.

If it doesn't work try pressing 3 or 4 times on step three. Goodluck.

So I tried that exactly and I had no luck.

Question: IF I put Key #2 in the ignition and Key #1 in the door (attempting to re-program Key #1 (which works perfectly right now)) should this process work? It didn't. So maybe since I cannot get the lights to flash or a horn, or anything to confirm the process, maybe my whole process for programming the key is wrong?

Hmm...you ever thought maybe theres something wrong with that new remote. I would tell you to go to the stealership but that would be a last resort. Sorry I don't know what else to tell you, just keep trying to you get it, it took me a while also. If you do go to the stealership since you'll probably pay out the a$$, atleast have them program it so it can do all this extra stuff like these http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec13.shtml

Yes I consider something COULD be wrong with it.

When I bought it though the guy I bought it from had a tester.
He held it up to the tester and pushed each of the buttons. The unit BEEPED saying that it detected the transmission
He did it with my good remote too and it beeped each time. I KNOW it is transmitting a good signal. Weather or not my car likes it is a diff story.

STILL, the fact that I used my good remote in the door to lock/unlock should have still made it re-programmed and the lights should have flashes.
And i KNOW that is good.

What did you end up doing with your key? I just got a new key, and I have tried a couple of times to no avail.

TIA
