quattro into rear whel drive??!!!
it's pretty simple really,
remove front axles, front drive shaft from the tranny, remove the CLD from the tranny, find one or make one that only goes to the rear, then add 7 BOV's and 3 kkk04's with a pes g8s/c

This is a great question, I had a 91 Eclipse AWD and they made a kit to convert it to rear wheel drive, a lot of guys who were putting serious upgrades on their rides put it on temporarily because few of us had access to an all wheel drive dynos and so had no way to tune the car. This is one use for the conversion, the other, though I'm not familar with where it would apply, is if you wanted to enter your car in a race that prohibited AWD. As a whole personally I've always enjoyed having all wheel drive compared to the front and rear wheel drive cars I've owned.
I'm not sure if a locking center diff would completely take care of the problem. After all, you would be putting 100% of available power through just one rear driveshaft, one rear diff, and two rear half-shafts that were only designed to cope with 50% of that power. Figure in that even if they had a 100% overbuild on those parts, you're still cutting it close to seriously overloading some very expensive parts.
Ohhhhhhhhh. One of those.
