quattro VS fwd ... ?
Ok, here's what I would like to know. How much better does the A4 quattro handle than the FWD A4, if at all??? (I'm looking at the '98-'99 models)
what kind of driving do you do?

If you plan to race track events go with AWD

If you plan to extensively modify the car go with AWD

If your going for more economical approachgo with FWD (cheaper and better fuel economy.

I have a 98 a4 1.8 T Quattro, handles great at high speeds where a FWD wouldn't be stable through the turns

also your hometowns weather may also be considered. It's quite usefull in the snow

A quattro is just much more efficient.... fwd's are safe but don't provide as much grip

If you live in a rainy country i think you should go for a quattro

If you don't you don't really have to

I own a FronTrakker in New England, I wish I had quattro, but the FWD really isnt that bad even in snow, just get good snow tires for winter, wet performance tires for summer, and you will be just fine.
