Default question about intercooler w/ k03 and mods

with my current mods I am planning on getting the samco hoses and a ecs light crank pulley. With all those mods I want to install an intercooler to prepare for the big turbo. The question is, will I get descent hp gain from putting on the front mount with my current mods? Also, will building an intercooler myself be worse then buying a whole kit from apr or forge? i searched this and there wasn't really any info on the matter, thanks.

There is a ton of info about intercoolers on here!

I would build your own. Get a ebay core (cxracing is the guys username) and then buy some piping. Go to the DIY section on here and there is a good DIY on how to do it. Plus it's a LOT cheaper!

YOu are running the GIAC software so you should see a little. Not much but a little. You might loose 1 or 2 psi because of it as well. For that reason I am going to be running a water/meth kit in mine.

The reason you loose boost is because instead of just boosting air through a pipe, you are now pushing air through a big pipe so to speak. it has more inside volume than the oem pipe. Because of this you will loose a small amount of boost to fill the extra space.

Just think of anything between the turbo and the cylinders as an air tank. The turbo has to compress that to 14psi or whatever and keep it there even when the cylinders are sucking in air. The stock turbo is small and isn't all that efficient so adding more space for it to fill means it has to work harder, but the space might be too big for it to keep up with.

Skip the crank case pully, unless you are looking for an extra savings of 0.01 sec.

Samco hoses look nice, but similarly are more cosmetic than anything else.

Any 1.8t with a chip will havea intercooler that will heatsoak. You will see gains by it not heatsoaking, it will cool the air to a lower temp than the stock did on a chip, and you will seem to pull better in higherrpms since that is when the temps increase rapidly and by lowering those, you will get denser air and more timing to keep you moving.
