Default question about oil change intervals

i have been reading up on changing my oil and am confused. it is time for my first oil change on my car. '01 A4 with 41,xxx miles. or i think it is time. when i hit the button on my dash, it says service in 7500 miles. i am aware the car does not come with synthetic oil from audi so the 7500 service must not keep track of oil changes?? my next question. will it cause any harm to my engine if use mobil 1 this time, and then when i bring it in to audi for an oil change they use non-synthetic?

Just go with synthetic. change it every 5K miles, not 7.5.

If you want the dealer to fill with synthetic, you will have to bring it with you.

shouldnt most dealers have the synthetic at hand? my dealer does, its lot cheaper to buy it yourself and let them change it, or do it yourself.

The dealer in Colorado Springs carries Castrol Syntec 5W40 as option--I am sure other dealers carry something similar--I think one of the Audi cars (RS6?) requires synthetic oil. I had to pay an extra $20 for the synthetic oil change and I have run synthetic oil since the odometer read 10,000 miles.

I think it depends on the dealer from the sound of it.

ok, i am under warranty, that is why i am asking about having it done at the dealer. if i wasnt under warranty, i would just do mobil-1 at every 5k myself

????

I can get the oil changed with synthetic for under 30 dollars at places other than the dealership.
