Default Question about replacing vac hose

Ok, I was looking at my car lastnight and found that there are several
types of vacuum hoses, am I right? I know for sure that the vac hose
are the small hoses with special braided cloth, maybe to protect it from
heat. The others are rather larger.

Jestnomen, the vac hose that I should replace are the small braided ones
right??? And another question is, if those are the ones I have to replace,
am I suppose to remove the Intake manifold in order to replace some
located under the intake manifold??

Thanks all!

See if you can get access without taking the manifold first. I know I have replaced most of the hose without taking the manifold, however there is one big hose that is really hard to get at. Not sure how I could take that off.

Ok, I believe I might have found the hose that is BAD.
The one that runs from under the manifold all the way
to the bottom of the engine. There is a small crack on
the shield so I'm assuming that is the cause to the
1128 error code.

By the way, how much do you guys get your Audi
vac hose for?? I bought mine yesterday and it costs
me $11.39 PER FOOT!!! Is there anything wrong if
I use the ones from Champion or Autozone? I know
the difference is that the hose Audi has is shielded.

I think it's a ripped off for that price! The hose at
Autozone is $0.73 per foot.

The most important QUESTION is.... How am I going
to remove the vac hose under the intake manifold????
Can someone who has done it without removing the
manifold gave this newbie a hand? Thanks a bunch!

In case I have to remove the manifold, once it is removed,
do I have to put a new gasket in? And is it hard to remove
the intake manifold?

Thanks again!

Do you have a 1.8TQ AWM motor? What year is your car? if so, then we have the same car! I hope the hose you are referring to is the same hose that I haven't replaced yet. Is this the hose that run underneath the radiator hose and goes all the way to the passenger side of the motor near the turbo?

Yeah, that's the one but mine's not a quattro, its just the fwd A4.
I have no idea how I can get my hand in there to remove it.
Perhaps a long needle nose pliers or something. Have you tried
to ask how much is the vac hose cost in your area? Like I said,
at the dealer where I go to it cost me $11.39/foot.

Anyway, how much hose did you need to replace them all? I'm probably about to do the same thing myself.

Hey Dan, it cost me a hand just to buy one foot so I only purchase
one foot of vac hose. I'm not sure how much you'll really need but
at $3/foot, I'll probably buy 10 to 15 foot length because there seems
to be a lot of hose on the intake manifold.

ECS tuning has the hose for about 1.60 per foot. Or you can get plain rubber for about 30 cents per foot at auto stores.

ones Audi used that has a shield??

The Audi ones are likely higher quality and have higher temp resistance than plain, but I haven't seen any specifications. Any hose is better than a cracked one.
