I changed the oil and filter on mine about 800 miles ago, with 5W-30 Full Synthetic. I used a Fram oil filter from Wal-Mart for like $6 and no problems... As long as you look up the correct model number with a computer or parts book, you should be alright. I used what was reccomended to me by the little computer thing they have at the Wal-Mart stores...

The OEM filter is much larger than the fram, and increases your oil capacity. This helps prevent sludging.

OEM filter is 6 dollars from ECS tuning

if you have the 18t go with the factory larger oil filter just to make sure you wont have any sludge probs.

Audi specifically came out with the larger oem filter to reduce sludging. Oil sludge=dead motor.. or more chances for premature engine failure.. It would be dumb to be aware of this, and still use the smaller oil filters.
