SO yeah today on my way home from a friends house I was going up a hill and shifted into second gear from 3rd. I was on the gas but not hard at all. Anyways instead of a nice smooth shift into second it revved way up and then just BANG! or CLUNK! it went into 2nd. The car jumped super hard. It was the equivalent of someone dumping the clutch on a Manuel at 5k RPMs. Any ideas?

Also sometimes it will clunk loudly when I shift into reverse.

It's a 99.5 A4 1.8TQT (Trip-Tronic)

I would seriously consider it, if your tranny is on the outs. audi tips are not inexpensive.

 

Sounds like the valve body in the transmission is acting up on you. If one of the check ***** or valves gets stuck it won't shift right. Try changing the trans fluid.
