Stuck, loud clunk and roll
A week ago I was stopped at a traffic light in my 99 A8.
When released the break although on flat road, the car was not moving.
After giving it some gas, about 1100 rpm, a loud metallic clunk came from the front (I think left side) and the car started moving normally.
The same was repeated 5-6 time within 24 hours, either on drive or reverse, always when starting to roll from totally stopped.
A week and about 100 stop-and-go miles later, it has not been repeated!
Any ideas?
Thanks

My best guess is the transmission range switch (PRNDL SWITCH) trying to figure out what gear its supposed to be in. That or one of the valves in the valve body of the transmission got stuck and wouldn't shift into gear.
First would be to check the fault codes for any problems with the PRNDL switch, if that checks out ok get the transmission fluid changed.
