It was really really cold this morning...my car did this
I have an Audi 99 A4 2.8. The temperature was very low this morning (like 2 degrees or something). My car started off great and about 15 minutes into my ride to work, the most weird thing happened. My car started to accelerate on its own!!! It was just crazy when your foot is not on the gas pedal but the car keeps accelerating. I was on the highway and the traffic was moving along fine with no congestion. All I could do was drive to the nearest Audi dealer on my way, push it to Park and shut the engine off. Has anybody experienced such a problem ever before ?
Don't warm up your car on idle, 30 seconds max, that's when all the damage occurs to an engine, the oil is thick and the oil pressure is low on idle, sonner you get the car moving about the better. I drive right off but stick under 3k until oil temp is up.
I do the same thing. I have an oil pressure gauge hooked up and on start up it is at max for about 30 - 60 seconds then starts to slowly drop. Im not sure how long it would take to reach the lowest pressure -about 20-25psi- but that is when it is bad to sit and idle. I dont let it idle for more than 30 seconds then start my drive, just stay light on the gas like everyone else.
