So I get into my car and turn it on, put it into drive and drive about 10 -15 meters and there is this pretty substantial sound it sounds like grinding/ but I have a feeling that its the quattro kicking in? is this normal?? I would post a video but you really cant hear it at all in the video! But I feel it first 15 meters doing about 10mph-20mph??? WTF??? Help Please!!! Taking it to the dealer in about 2 weeks!

 

no quattro doesn't "kick in". quattro is always there whenever ur moving. does it change with speed? is the sound there when u rev the engine? get it up to 15mph and then put it in neutral and see if u still here it

Yes I know what quattro is, it comes from an italian word meaning four hence four wheel drive! But the noise only comes of the initial start when I turn on the car and it has been cold for a while and I take off than I havent really noticed it any other time! I thoght quattro should be ingaged all the time anyways but by the counds of this noise it made me question it! so once again, when I get into my car and the car has been sitting there for a while cooled of I turn it on put it into drive get off my driveway and drive about 10 meters and start acelerating slowely the sound is like a gear kicking in! or shifting it into second. But its not because I tried it in the tip mode and im still in first and it still makes the same noise and it shouldnt shift at such a low speed into second. I can not pinpoint to where it comes from but it also sound like someone not knowing how to shift a manual trans.! But I cant really tell if its the transmision or not. I can feel it a bit on my throttle like a very slight vibration! Not very loud or anything but its there and its really anyoying and it worries me, I dont want anything to happen to this car!

 

auto usually shifts at like 15mph or so to 2nd gear. unless u gas it sorta hard. is the sound just like once then goes away or do u hear it several times and then it goes away? it sorta almost sounds like the tranny is confused if it should shift or not. go get ur fault codes read. even thought CEL isn't on doesn't mean u don't have a problem.

 

Yeah it only happens once in the initial drive when i start the car in the morning for the rest of the drive its fine like at a red light and all that its fine once its runing, but if its been sitting there for about an hour or so and i get in to drive and not slam on the gas just go slow it happens!

 

ok so let me get this straight again, u start the car when it's cold, put it in D and slow go and then hear the sound at about 10-15mph? do u hear it right when it shifts or before or after? i didn't rly understand the part when u said about the being in tip stuff lol

 

K LOL! When I am in tip mode you can select the gears right 1st and than second and so on, so when I put it into tip mode I just leave it in first and go for the first 0-10mph right and the noise still happens so it isnt the shifting! even when I am in D it does the same thing I hear the car shift but the noise happens way before the car shifts! because you can watch the rpm's and see when the car shifts and it doesent shift a little while after the noise! like I said its really messed up and weird!
