I've just bought a 2 year old 1.8T A4. When I turn on the rearwindow (& side mirror) heaters, there is mad interference in theradio - sometimes to the point that the station can't be heard.Has anybody else experienced this? Many thanks.

Yes this is common. There is no cure except to install an aftermarket antenna (which is ugly and difficult)

 

i get bad reception like all the time now...is it related to my tint? it was fine for like the past month or two but then recently it seems to get bad reception so i just listen to CDs..

 

Hi also have bad reception from my stock radio. I have read about metallic tint effecting the radio signals and pullled my tint out 10mins ago on the rear window but the reception didn't improve...

Any suggestions?

I get the same thing on AM, which I like because of sports, My FM works fine. Weird!!

 

I haven't found a vialble solution yet. IMO the fender antenna looks weird and I haven't seen one that fits correctly. I briefly thought about a FUBA antenna like those found on a VW, but was afraid I'd get banned from this website (or at least laughed at) Really not sure how that would look (bad or okay?)

Usually the point at which the antenna wire is connected to the windshield is where problem occure, especially after tint is applied because it may be susseptible(sp? I'm such a crappy speller) to being bumped or soaked with water (causing corrosion). Another possibility is the antenna "line" on the window got scratched. I think these are the two verticle line that run across the defroster. If your tint installer used a razor blade to cut the tint it's possible that nicked one of the lines, this is why you always have bad reception.

A replacement antenna is the only solution in either case as the deforster will almost always interfer with reception and it is difficult to fix the lines on the window if they are damaged.

So, what is everyone's opinion of the FUBA antenna (that's the one that only about 16" long and is usually mounted on the roof near the back and angles out in a 45* angle.)?

I'd be interested to know what those "shark fin" type antennas I'm seeing on the new cars is all about.... I think it may be amplified
