Replaced Check Valve??
03 A4 1.8t w/tipwent to dealership because the CEL was flashing and the car felt like it was misfiring. Running really rough. Just assumed it was a coil pack and had it towed. Well, the dealershiporiginally came back with that the coil packs were fine but the Check Valve needed to be replaced. Anyone ever hear of a Check Valve?
Asked the service person but I received the song and dance statement that never seems to answer the question. [sm=bs.gif]
Also, he did state that all 4 coil packs were replaced but nothing on the repair order states they were. Screwy dealership...

A flashing CEL indicates a misfire... A bad check valve will not cause a misfire... You saying they replaced your coil packs but didnt charge you for them, and then replaced a check valve that probably didnt need replacing??
Hey, the A4 is a CPO so there was no charge other than the $50 deductible. The dealership's original diag was that the A4 CEL was flashing and the car was running rough because the Check Valve needed to be replaced. Which they did replace it. What is a Check Valve? Never heard of it.
When I picked it up this morning, the service guy then stated "They replaced the Check Valve and all 4 coil packs" The warrantied coil packs were not on my receipt, but the warrantied Check Valve was. Suspicous.....

Thanks for the info. Think I just figured out the likely scenario on the misfire.
The dealer stated this car was certified when I purchased it last year.Once I took the car home I noticed the oil was black and over due for an oil change, nowasher fluidand the rear brakes only had about 25%. I also noticed I had no documentation to back up that this car was indeed certified.Appearently it was not truly certified until I gotAudi involved. (Long messed up story)
So now I am figuring that they never performed thecoil pack recall and are attempting toconceal that fact from Audi. Seeing the car had to be towed and Audi CPO program has to pony up the tow and repair cost. What an ingenious idea to state it was a Check Valve not the coil packs. Hence why the coil packs replacement was not listed on my receipt this morning. They will bury the coil pack cost in another car probably.
This dealership is as shady as they come.

At least its fixed! If you take the top plastic engine cover off youll be able to see if the coil packs are brand new or not. They wouldnt have any dirt/dust on them and they would have a clean surfface (unlike old dirtycoil packs that have been sitting there for 4 years.)
Onepoint...checked under the engine cover. The def. changed all 4 coil packs. Thanks for the advice!
