Replacing ABS tone ring

Replacing ABS tone ring
Well I found out what my problem was with my ABS... The drivers rear tone ring has a small chip taken out of it presumeably due to rust. How do I go about replacing the ring? Do I need a new axle?

RE: Replacing ABS tone ring
How did you diagnose that problem if you don't mins me asking? I think that may be the case with my car too but I'm not sure if it's the ring or the sensor itself. By the way if you buy a repair manual it will go over the steps, jack the car up, take off the wheel, the calipers, and take apart the spindle. You'll probably want to replace the wheel bearing while you're at it since it's right there too.

RE: Replacing ABS tone ring
well from the maintenance records I have it said the output of the drivers rear ABS sensor was erradic. I figured it was a bad sensor so I bought a new one. Lo and behold after destroying the old sensor trying to get it out I spun the wheel and bingo, a broken part of the ring. So my "faulty sensor" probably wasn't faulty at all.

RE: Replacing ABS tone ring
The toner ring cant be part of the hub. The wheel speed sensor mounts to the hub which is stationary. To calculate the speed the sensor must have a toner ring moving across it. Therefore the toner ring must be on something that rotates with the wheels. In this case its on the outer cv joint.
