Before replacing anything, run some high quality fuel system cleaner (Eg Techron or Redline) through a couple of tanks.

Alright, I liked the idea of running a fuel system cleaner, so I put Sea foam in the engine and in th efuel tank then went to Idaho and back, then to Wyoming. No I have a extra 750 miles on the car, and 3 cans on Sea Foam (I also did my truck, not all of them went into the car so it's okay) latter, I am still popping P0422 with even less power now and I am concerened because it doesn't feel like the turbo is putting any boost out under load. If you rev it up in park or nuetral you can here it spool and see it on the tach. In gear however, it dosen't fee; like the power is there.

Come on guys I need some Ideas. Is there anything else that I can do to help my poor car. I really don't want to replace the cat, but if I have to I will. Could the problem have been caused by the old owner running cheap fuel? If it is the cat, is there some thing that I can do to clean it out a bit. Is there a way to test it and see if it is it before I fork out the money to replace it. Can I do it myself or will it require special tools? How hard is it to do on the Audi? How much is a cat anyhow. If I replace it with a test pipe for now, where can I get one? Will it get rid of that code? Can I build a little harnes out of a donnor junk Audi to splice the pre and post cat togeather to test the cat or does that not work? Is there a right up on how to install a test pipe on a B5?

Thanks in advance. I know that there is a lot of questions there, but I don't know the answers and rather then pretending like I do and go take a swing at the car and potentially mess tit up worse, I'd rather the guys here think that I am stupid.

Don

if it comes up with P0442 only then its definitely the cat, you could remove it and clean the crap out of it or fit a piece of exhaust pipe in its place ( they call that a test pipe over there lol ) and not difficult to make up

also check the cost of a universal cat because they are much cheaper than OEM

I am not sure if this is good or not, but I am not popping P0442 I am popping P0422. Could you please clarify? Is it still going to be the cat if I am getting P0422 not P0442?

I thought that might be the case. I have to reread everything that I type `cuz I got some big `ol fat fingers on this small laptop. I think that I am going to end up temperaily doing a test pipe until Iget a new cat. I think that I will wait and get a high flow race cat with a 3 inch exhaust. What will I be looking at cost wise forcat anyhow? Is it a pain to remove?

depends on if its part of the main down pipe ( most cats are flanged ) but the bolts will most likely snap so be prepared, if you have a MiG welder handy you could make a pipe up and weld the flanges on as a make up piece and screw the cat completelyyou will benefit much more than fitting a high flow cat

VAG is amazing you can set the emissions without the cat then you can reset them when its passed ( the cat dosnt have to be there ) it just has to meet the standard
