Is replacing the trip display a tough/expensive job?

Default Is replacing the trip display a tough/expensive job?
I have several lines on the trip computer display that are out and consequently is hard to read. Is there a relatively quick and dirty way of replacing it? Thanks....

no quick fix - complete replacement. not cheap. Most of us just live with it

Seems odd that Audi would have installed such a sketchy display that fails after such a short time if this is such a common problem.
