Default Replacing the turbo. Is it a good DIY job?

I'm going to replace the turbo on my 1.8t next week. Is it a very simple job? Are there any write ups on it?

to ask means your no mechanic- to a mechanic its simple apart from all the thing you have to take off to get there

greg, before I pulled my turbo off, the most I had ever done was an oil change. If you get a good manual and have access to tools, you will have no problem.

easy to do...if you can turn a wrench and read, you got it...just don't jump the gun...follow all procedures to a T. you dont want to hook up a line wrong. say hello to another new turbo if you do.

He never said he was a mechanic. Mechanics wouldnt ask for a write up. Haha... Seems like your answers to peoples questions are usualy just short of being cocky. I like you. Im guessing you are some kind of technician who laughs at most of the posts on this forum, self loathing in your life of rusty bolts and absence of repair manuals and "write ups." And did you ever answer my question about the diagnostic program you showed us pics of on your laptop? I couldnt find that post.

There is a DIY about K04 upgrade. It is going to be similar to this. You should be fine, if you follow the same order. It is not a easy job tho. time consuming...

yeah, to replace the stock turbo for the first time, having no experience, give yourself a full day, just to be safe. You will also need to do an oil change and might as well do a coolant flush while you are at it.

Thanks guys,

I can always figure things out myself. But, with these German cars, it's a good idea to have a write up by someone that has done it. That way you know where to expect the less expected.

wow that was some slap in the face lol but I never laugh at any post and take them all serious cough, when working on turbos for the first time extream caution is needed as mistakes are very expensive so it was only advice I also enjoy a good laugh which I get from some of the sites I visit I dont mean to be cocky
