Default Reprograming odometer.

I just replaced my faulty instrument cluster on my 99.5 with a used one that works better. It doesn't have the LCD like mine did but it seems like the only thing I'm missing is the small temperature indicator at the center. The rest works fine.

How do I set the odometer to the correct milage? Can a VAG-COM do it? Mine was at 98K and the new one has 44K.

I don't do those kind of things.

One more question. Do I need to do anything with the immobilizer? I had the car running for over 10 minutes in idle. No problems at all.

I don't think that you can reprogram the odometer, certainly not with a vagcom.

RossTech has instructions on how to do it with the VAG-COM but it is only for a new odometer. I was wondering if anyone ever installed a used odometer in their car?

It has to be possible, just contact a local euro mechanic and ask them if they can do it. or if its a real tool specific job you might have to go to the dealer and have them set it. I've also heard that an odometer can only be moved forward once.

My Bentely manual has instructions on how to do it with a VAG 1551 but it also refers to a new odometer. I would like to know if anyone have actually rolled a used odometer forward.

99.5 has no immobilizer so you're all set there (if it did, you would have known right away).

I don't think the odo can be set ahead unless it's new. Well, you could put the car on a dyno or something and run up another 54K on it. Or just keep it as is and leave a sticker on the dash that says the odo is low by 54K.

I'm trying to figure out how to pull the speed sensor out of the transmission and then build some sort of contraption with an electric motor and a magnet that will spin in front of it and make it go up to 98K
