TO RESOLVE ALL ISSUES ONCE AND FOR ALL: 1.8 or 2.8!
a 1.8t just doesnt seem to fit the "audi" luxurious name...do you see any BMW's with a turbocharged inline 4?? a 2.8 is nice and smooth, and if im not mistaking...the 2.8 is a WHOLE SECOND faster stock for stock in the quarter mile. so pretty much the 2.8 is more of a smooth, powerful v-6, and the 1.8 is more of a choppy, unreliable, version of the 2.8
but when it comes to modding, its not even close...the 1.8 owns.
BTW: I own a 2.8

I've never driven a 2.8, so I cant really say (and neither should you, if you haven't driven both).
Though I can say this: a friend of mine has driven his parents 2.8, and my 1.8. He says the 1.8 definately feels lighter on its feet, more chuckable. However, I am very tantalized by the thought of a 2.8 supercharged.

now wait a second nobody bashed 2.8s infact I love them now Im guessing since you own a 2.8 you arent familiar with the 1.8t. You say bmw isnt offering a turbo 4 but alot of other euro cars feature turbo'd motor. Mine is docile smooth and has some pep, infact my 99.5 felt more pepy then a 2001 2.8 with the electronic throttle. Go ahead and drive a 4 cylinder bmw like my dads old 2002 328 vert, it was a moaning dog and Id take a 1.8t over it anyday. The 2.8 or 1.8t can never be associated with the word powerful unless severly modded, smooth Ill give you but powerfull there not.

Consider the price ranges when you are comparing Audi to BMW for what you get, or what you can get out of it.. What the "audi" luxurious name is dpends on the person who is driving it i guess. My 1.8t is luxury all over the place for me. I was just reflecting this afternoon on how much i enjoy my 1.8t and the luxurious complements it offers..

dude what is your problem?!?! everytime I post you are there to say something crappy to me. do you live for trolling around on me???
When I set out to buy a car I had saved 15,000 CASH!! I drove the 2.8, 1.8T and several other cars, what made me go with the 1.8T when I could have bought any of them easily???.......
1) MPG
2) Easy to mod
3) Easy to work on (I do my own work and the engine bay is way less clustered)
4) Light weight (for an Audi)
5) Love the feeling of BOOST!!!!
