Default Rev counter and speedometer stuck

Hi

Anybody out there that can assist with information regarding repairs to the control panel? The rev counter and the speedometer are stuck. Strangely they move slightly in extreme weather (South Africa can get pretty hot!). But in general I have no idea how fast I go. The dealers here will replace the entire unit at about R8000.00 (exchange rate R7 to the $). I get the feeling the 2 indicators are not making contact at the back. All other indicators work (i.e. fuel gauge, temperature, etc). It is an A4 1.8 2000 model.

Thx
Guera

Well you can remove the instrument cluster by doing this: remove the trim piece above the steering wheel and below the intrument cluster. It just pulls up with a little force. Behind it is 2 screws. Once you remove them the cluster will pull out. It will only come out far enough for you to stick your hand behind to check the connections.

Hi

Thx. We will try it this weekend. It is probably safer I stick to IT technology. At least there I know what I can fiddle with
