I just changed mine yesterday. Dieselgeek has the cheapest kit. Recommend you change the water pump and tensioner since the labor is in getting the front of the car off. The bumper is the biggest PITA to get off. You want the later AWM kit. Dieselgeek shows only one; ECS shows two.

Wow Dieselgeeek.com seems like it has more parts on the kit. Nice!

I was thinking to chip the car first, but I'll buy the timing belt tomorrow from dieselgeek.com

My mecanic is telling me not to buy the timing belt online because could be a cheap quality, but on the dealer is $450+tax vs $270 on the web.

LOL. Find another mechanic! He speaks out of ignorance and that would scare me. The belt is Contitech or Continental (depending on which engine you have). It's not a generic piece from Taiwan.

The part number is 06B109119F and is less than $30 for the belt only. It's the tensioner, other belts, water pump, etc. that adds up. What is the dealer giving you for $450? I doubt everything that comes in the kit.

the dealer asking for $450:
-Timing belt
-tensioner
-roler
-water pump

Dieselgeek asking for $270
-Timing belt
-tensioner
-roler
-water pump
-thermostate
-ac/water pump belts

It's generic parts or no?

No. The water pump is made in Italy and it has a metal impeller, an upgrade from the OEM part which is plastic. The belts are Contitech and Continental. The tensioner and roller are OEM and made in Germany. They are not generic parts. The dealer markup on parts is almost 100%. If you want, price out the parts at 1stvwparts.com; dieselgeek lists the part numbers. See how much they are individually.

The water pump is driven by the timing belt on AWM engines.

You have a later engine--it is NOT the same as the AUG. Give Jim a call at www.dieselgeek.com.

From ECSTuning website:

"Kit fits AUG/AWM engine codes only."

I have consistently read that an AWM is simply a chipped AUG, mechanically identical.

Dieselgeek lists three kits:

1. AEB and ATW
2. AMB and AWM
3. AUG

The individual part numbers for the tensioner assembly and damper are different. So, I would purchase the kit for your specific engine.
