Default Rough Idle Question / TB cleaning?

I have a 02 a4 1.8t, recently it started idling a little roughly. After some research, the most common causes seem to be a dirty TB, 02 sensor, MAF, or spark plugs. I figured I would try a DIY first and clean the TB with carb cleaner as was suggested in several places. Has anyone does this that could give me a little guidance or advice for doing this correctly? Also, anyone else had any other sucessful fixes for a similar problem? Thanks!

Funny thing, my idle has sucked for a while too, but tonight i went about
fixing it. I got a new K and N filter, and Spark plugs, and the problem
went away. then again i have a b5 with 100k on it. lol

Well, the first thing is to check for codes. Could be anything.

I would also check for vacuum leaks.

Just get a can of carb cleaner, and an old tooth brush. Spray the cleaner in there, scrub it clean with the tooth brush, until there is no more black. Use a clean rag to wipe it off when done.
get up in there as far as you can, spray the cleaner up in there also.
