Default Rounded plug...

I replaced my plugs over a month ago but my #6 plug won't come out. I think I need a socket that doesn't grab on the corners since mine won't work. Anyone have any suggestions?

Its not like my car rns badly, but I'd like to get it out.

What do you mean a socket that doesnt grab on the corners?? Dont they all?? Try some PB blaster, or give it a try when the engine is HOT, or both. They come out easier when the engine is hot.

There are sockets that grab on the flat sides of a rounded bolt or what have you. They're not cheap...

I'll give the PB a try and see how that goes.

I thought I saw something about a wrench that grabs more toward the center of the head of the bolt, ie not as close to the points on the hex. Supposed to help on rounded off hex bolts.

Anyway, why can't you get the plug out? Do you put a spark plug socket on it and couldn't turn it, or is the socket actually slipping around the hex (rounded the corners on the hex).

I can't get the plug out because my socket grabs, then slips. I think the plug is rounded.

Two things

Don't make it worse by continuing to try to get it out and having it slip. That will make it even harder to get out with the right tool (maybe the special wrench you mentioned)

Second, not trying to sound like a jerk, but make sure you have the right size socket. There is more than one standard size for spark plug socket wrenches (deep socket with the rubber insert). Using an oversized socket could be your problem. I know you got the other plugs out with the socket you are using, but maybe they came out easy. For a stubborn plug, you may be forcing the socket to rotate around the plug.

See if you can use a flashlight to look down in there and see how bad the plug has been rounded.

If you have the right socket, I would try driving the car around for a half hour to heat it up, then try removing the plug while the engine is hot like onepoint said.

You're not sounding like jerk. I have the corect size for the plug and it does slip. I probably need to inspeact it closer to see hoe bad it really is. I'll do that tomorrow.

Also make sure that something didnt fall down there. Something may be stuck down there not allowing the socket to grip the plug but on the very top.

Probabvly monday I'll take a good look at the situation. I'll try cleaning the immediate area, then PB blaster, then drive it for a bit and give it another shot.
