Default S4 sidesirt repair help

Hey guys I just got a set of B5 S4 sideskirt "lowers" for REALLY cheap, only issue is that there are 2 areas where the plastic is cracked. Now my issue comes down to should I attempt to repair this myself, or do you guys think I should just take them to a body shop (since they need painted anyways) and have them do the repair work??? Any estimate on what it might cost me? Thanks everyone, and I didn't know where else to put this thread, so sorry if its wrong.

Just take it to the body shop and have them fix it given that they need painted. If they'rejust fixing and painting the skirts, and that's all, then i would ballpark it around $200.

ok sounds good, now my next question, what do you think of 'plastic welding' the oem rear lowervalence to the rear bumper, smoothing it into one piece and then painting that to go with the new lowers?

I would say that if you were considering doing this, then you should probably do it right and fiberglass it. I'm not too surehow well plastic weld would hold up against metal. Fiberglass would give you the extra reinforcement without compromising too much weight.

I personally wouldn't join the two into one piece, but i have seen it done, and it does look pretty slick.

Hmmm do you happen to have any pics??? I've never seen it, just thought of it though...

Also, I wouldn't be plastic welding plastic to metal, I would plasic weld the seem between the bottom lip and the actual rear bumper cover.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. If it were me, i would go fiberglass.

I believe is saw the bumper mod over on AZ. I'll try to dig it up and give you a link.

I appreciate the work, I just searched for it on AZ, didn't find any pics, but found a conversation about it. Plastic weld it is... however what I REALLY want is that Euro S4 rear bumper!!!

yea, everyone does... will cost you a fortune
as far as plastic welding, thats old technology, there is a plastic epoxy called fusor that is used to mold bumpers, hold up extremly well and is easy to finish over

Well.... kind of weird because I had literally just thought up this idea right before I posted about it on Friday. I had never seen any pics or anything, and Saturday night I was out bar hoping and saw a silver S4 with this exact mod done!!! I couldn't believe it, talk about weird. Anyways it looked pretty slick, don't know if I'll do it, but obviously its been done.
