Default Seat question

My drivers seat needs some help. As you can tell from my miles, I drive a lot, so that seat is well used. The support for the lumbar and mid back area is pretty much gone. I would consider an aftermarket seat, but mine has the airbag on the left side of it. I did post this once before, I think, but I am looking for an alternative to buying a new stock seat. They are not cheap. Maybe I could get it repadded and upholstered. Right now I am using a gardners knee pad for the lumbar and small pillow for the mid back. Cheesey, I know, but it beats the constant back ache if I take those things out.

So do you want a better seat or do you want to repair the OE seat or do you want to find a better lumbar cushion?
What's your priority?

Sorry, remind me which year model you have again.

I've got a 2000 1.8t Avant Quattro. I don't really know what I want to do. My major concern is just getting something that is comfortable to sit in for a long period of time. The question is whether or not there is an after market seat available that will incorporate that airbag. No power, they are manual adjustments. The leather is in perfect condition, I've just broken down the support of the seat. Do you know if there are upgrade seats with the airbag in them?

My quick search/research came up short. The best I found was that Recaro seats may be compatible with what you need, but I don't know about the airbag. I could not find anything on a repair.

u can always go to a junkyard and buy a used seat... i know it sounds bad but alot of good cars are junked due to their enigines being crushed like a tin can... so check out your local junkyard and see what you can find
Very good idea!
I forgot about that option, but daveyk80 is right. Quite often totaled cars that find their way to a junkyard have a lot of perfectly good parts that don't even have a scratch.

Recaro will sell you an OEM audi seat with airbags and heated seat (if you need it). It costs a severe premium, but you can get it if you call them.

Thanks Imolas4, daveyk80 and brrman. I checked a few yards, found a seat, but wrong color. And I've got Recaro open in another window right now. I'll have to call tomorrow, so I can make sure they know exactly what I'm looking for but damn, you were right about the severe premium.
