Default sensor problem

so i bought the coolant temp sensor for the flange at the back of the block. my stock one was blue and i got one in the mail from ecs
that was also blue. its the four point one. two prongs are silver looking and the other two are copper looking. they match up and
everything seems to fit perfectly fine. i started up the car and ran it waiting for the temp to show....nothing. damn it. maybe i didnt wait long enough or is this possibly the wrong sensor. it was only like 15 bucks. did i get the wrong one.

i also was hoping that this would be the reason my engine light is on. cause ever since i changed that flange, the sensor went bad from my own mishandling and the engine light came on. but this new sensor didnt seem to fix anything. ugh.

help please anyone.
thanks
