Exclamation Seriously Considering A/S 4 Cab - What To Look For?

Ok, I've done some initial research, but just need some verification.

Car MUST be an auto - I spend waaay too much time in traffic for a stick. Have read that the A series with the CVT's were plagued with problems - is this across the board or limited to a vin range or build range?

Also read where the S series can have issues with timing chain tensioners. Same question, vin range, build date, or across the board?

And finally, are these cars pretty weather-tight?

I'm probably looking at the '04 - '06 range.

Oh, I'm in LOVE with the red interiors - was that in the S series only?

Thanks!

Greg

Have a pre purchase inspection done by a reputable repair shop familiar with European vehicles.

Not sure but I think all S4s came with manual transmissions only. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

As for the CVT question I have read that some people love them while others hated them. On this forum it is the later. Most will tell you to grab a Quatro if you can.

I haven't really seen much about these cars not being weather tight.

I have never seen the red interior (I like it too) in anything but an S4 so if it was available I bet it would be very hard to find.

So having a Quattro will eliminate the CVT and give me a Triptonic instead?

Yep, automatic Quatros used the triptonic trans.
