Hi-
Only my Insp was flashing on my display. I followed the previous instructions in this thread. I had to go thru the Oil display first then the insp in order to get both showing "----". The "----" continued to show until I turned my car off. When I turned my car back on, the warnings were gone! Thank you for your assistance...and saving me some $ to go to my mechanic for such a minor thing that I corrected myself!
Sincerely,
Deb

Two levers that stick out of the cluster. Left lever under RPM gage and right lever under speedo.
1. put key in do not turn yet.
2. Press and hold right lever, while holding turn ignition to ON. "oil" will appear.
3. Release lever
4. Pull left lever until *----* appears. Oil service warning is clear.
5. Turn ignition off.
For service inspection:
6. press and hold right lever
7. turn ignition on "service" should/will appear
8. release lever
9. Pull left lever until *-----* appears. Service Inspection is clear.
10. turn ignition off. You should be clear after that unless something is wrong that keeps throwing the service light on.
That's how I did mine. Seems to be a few different ways of doing it depending on your model. If its older than 1998 i think you need the tool.

Hi All!
New member here, glad to be aboard!
Hoping you can help me - sorry to bump this old thread but it seems relevant but different enough to warrant a new enquiry...
I have a 1997 1.8L A4. My display this morning started flashing "service INSP" for about 30 seconds or so when I turn the ignition on, every time I turn it on.
Unlike the original poster, I did not have a service this month - the last service was in September (not by Audi dealer).
I see that you guys have posted instructions to switch off the warning but I thought I'd like to check, before dismissing it... what triggers the warning? Should I take heed and get it to a garage? Does it need a premature service? Or just clear it using the instructions above?! Maybe I'm naive but I feel like warning lights must have some purpose other than annoyance.
Thank you =D
