you have 2 buttons on the dash clocks the one on the right below the speedo is button A and the other is B below the tach.

press and hold button A
switch ignition on
the letters oil will appear in the trip recorder display
release button A
pull out button B for approx 2 seconds to reset the display

1. Switch ignition off.

3. The message "Service OIL" will appear on the trip recorder display.
4. Pull out clock adjuster **** in instrument cluster and hold in position until message "Service OIL" is cancelled.

1. Insert key into ignition.
2. Push and hold the odometer reset button and turn the key to the first click.
3. The display should read "OIL" or "SERVICE" and if it does not, try steps 1 and 2 again.
4. To reset, push the clock adjustment **** at the bottom of the tachometer.
5. Turn the ignition to the off position. When the ignition is turned back on, the display should be back to the trip odometer.

This method worked in my 2001 A6 after a couple of attempts. If not, you can find someone with a VAG that knows how to reset.

My car worked with this one as well... The other push pull methods didnt work so I reached into the glove box, pulled out the factory manual, went to page 105 (I think thats where it was) and there was my answer...
